From furnishing to open doors

Bess creator Christy Mack helped Canyon Club Brewery founder Kevin Hamilton and interior designer Julie Manning bring the brewery brand created by Flight Design Co. to life in Moraga, California.

Kevin + crew rehabbed a 1970s, triangular, old Wachovia bank building that sat vacant for almost ten years. They wanted a funky place for the community to gather and made this bank Canyon Club’s home.

After two years of planning and six months of construction, Christy and Julie joined forces to furnish the brewery space. They used one of a kind treasured finds inside and out.

Julie and Christy found original, uncommon paintings and vintage sketches and hung them in mismatched frames all around the brewery – even in the most unexpected nooks and crannies. They chose movie art and artifacts to grace the hand stenciled walls of Big Lebowski and Princess Bride themed-bathrooms. Julie and Christy painted a classic 1970s tiled wall black, transforming it into a feature wall for branded merchandise, more found art and a ram’s head affectionately named Travis.

Julie and Christy picked up books along with family games from Goodwill and used them to fill cedar crates in a cozy hangout area. They selected bohemian pillows made by Etsy artists from Istanbul to Illinois for the brewery’s reclaimed, handmade Douglas Fir furniture and worn leather couches.

Julie and Christy created a funky vintage yet modern feel that maps back to the brand’s origins + intent and helped make Canyon Club an eclectic hangout spot, quenching lots of community thirst. Cheers to that!
